Memories from 6 years ago

"21 January 2014, I am not ok" post.

So here's the story, this was the day when I was supposed to go and register for my first option course at the North West University - Mafikeng campus but I couldn't because of FINANCE💔.

My Mom was going to start working the next month after a long period of unemployment. I couldn't even get myself out of bed, she had no money at all not even to get me to Mafikeng. So I asked one of my cousins to help me apply for an eduloan/NSFAS and her response was "I don't get it, why wasn't your mother saving for your education all these years"

In my head I'm thinking how does a then breadwinner of a family and extended family save for education when she was tirelessly working for to ensure 12 grandchildren- (Two of those her daughters) were fed, clothed and taken to school even with some coming short but she did it anyways.

Fine I get past that, and completely loose the hope of going to Uni. I remember my mom coming into the bedroom I was sleeping in and said "Gotla loka, Modimo o teng" and walked out, those words were like a knife bursting through a baloon filled with water soaking the pillow beneath. At that point my faith was really shaken, I needed a miracle because I didn't think I'd even be able to carry myself out of that bed.

My Mom spent the next few days going and seeking help while I was still having a pity party, one of my paternal family members said they'd help I was so happy that finally something pulled through, when we got to the house the person didn't even give is any attention left us with his parents as he jetted off to Mozambique for a holiday, while mom and I sat under the mango trees. That was really foolish of us to think they'd help when they've never bought me a scribbler book in primary school. Sidenote:Someday we will discuss how our families loves us enough to celebrate and have the "Cold Drink" entitlement post our success even without their help through the Elevation when we rise and fall

During this period not for once has my mom mentioned "you need to go find a job or you'll go next year" the goal was to get me to a university in 2014. 5th of February 2014 decided to go visit a friend at her university, when we were chilling at Building 7 "The Lake", some guys were talking about late applications, the way I was ready for anything I was going around with copies of my matric statements just incase and at Tshwane University of Technology I had my "Just incase" moment happened, did a late application for my 2nd and 3rd option and I got admission on the spot.

Fast forward to 6 years later, I am a Human Resource Management graduate from one of the best University of Technology in Africa,Serving in a government department, 3rd Year Marketing Student, have student journal to my name with an award to show for that, experience of serving various directorates of the University from Student Governance & Leadership Development to Accommodation Residence Life & Catering, Poet but most of all Blogger!

Long story short, "u ma ku lunga ngathi zange Kwa bheda" - Eventually everything will work out together for your good. Truly and really the universe Listens to a stubborn heart.
